This work discusses the application of Resonant Magnetic Perturbations (RMPs) in the COMPASS tokamak in Ohmic D-shaped discharges, with toroidal magnetic field BT = 1.15 T, plasma current Ip = 170 kA and line-average electron density ne = 5×1019 m−3. In order to study the effect of RMPs on the plasma parameters in the divertor region with high spatial resolution, the strike-points were swept radially across 39 Langmuir divertor probes during a shot. The current-voltage characteristics data were processed using the novel first-derivative probe technique which allows one to evaluate the plasma potential and the real electron energy distribution function (EEDF), respectively the electron temperatures and densities. It has been found that in the vicinity of the inner and outer strike points of the divertor, that EEDF is bi-Maxwellian, with a low-energy electron population (4 - 6 eV) and a higher energy one (10 - 30 eV).
When applying RMPs with alternate directions of the current in the external coils, we observed splitting of strike points characterized by change of spatial profiles of the floating potential and the ion saturation current at the outer strike point
