Titanium dioxide is the most frequently used photocatalyst in the last decade. Our group used novel procedure for the preparation of Ti02 lamellar nanostructures from titany! sulphate. This material had high photocatalytic activity in UV. Therefore, the aim of this work was to shift the absorption edge of this photocatalysts to the visible region and thus use more sunlight. Hence the dopant was added in the first step of synthesis. As a dopant either one lanthanide (neodymium) or one precious metal (silver or gold) was used in amount 1 % at. towards Ti. The photocatalytic activity was characterized from the results of the photodegradation of 4-chlorophenol in an aqeuous solution under UV and visible irradiation .
