Übersetzungen aus dem Griechischen waren einst die Wurzeln der slawischen Literaturen, im Vergleich zur Literatur der klassischen Antike blieb aber in dieser Hinsicht die byzantinische Literatur bei uns immer ein 'Aschenputtel'. Andererseits stammen die Übersetzungen nicht selten aus der Feder herausragender Byzantinisten. In ihrem Text fasst Radka Fialová die Tradition des Übersetzens der byzantinischen Literatur ins Tschechische zusammen und behandelt konkreter drei bisher erschienene Bände der 'neuen Byzantinischen Bibliothek', die im Rahmen der Editionsreihe 'Pro Oriente' im Verlag Pavel Mervart erschienen sind: der erste Band ist eine Anthologie der byzantinischen Betteldichtung, während der zweite Band dem Genre des byzantinischen 'Quasi-Dramas' und der letzte bisher erschienene Band dem Genre der 'erbaulichen Erzählungen' gewidmet ist.

Translations from the Greek were once the roots of the Slavic literatures; compared to the literature of classical antiquity, however, in this respect Byzantine literature was always a kind of 'Cinderella'. On the other hand, the translations often came from the pen of outstanding Byzantinists. In her text, Radka Fialová summarizes the tradition of translating Byzantine literature into Czech and explores the last three published volumes of the 'New Byzantine Library' published as part of Pavel Mervart Publishing's 'Pro Oriente' series: the first volume was an anthology of Byzantine begging poems, the second was devoted to the genre of Byzantine 'quasi-dramas' and the final volume looked at the genre of 'spiritually beneficial tales'.
