W artykule omówiono abakus z przedscholastycznego okresu średniowiecza. Na podstawie dwóch opisów pochodzących z ok. 1000 roku a opierając się głównie na dziewięciu przedstawieniach tego przyrządu do liczenia, jakie zachowały się w manuskryptach z okresu od końca X do początku XII wieku, autor szczegółowo prezentuje wspomniany przyrząd arytmetyczny.

The article deals with the early medieval (i.e. pre-scholastic) abacus. The text discusses all essential details of this arithmetical instrument according to two descriptions of abacus (written around the year 1000) and according to nine images of this tool for counting, which are preserved in manuscripts dating from the late 10th to the beginning of the 12th century.
