The presentation examined selected findings from a questionnaire study conducted in a sample of 2.229 Czech academics. The main focus of the presentation was on disciplinary differences in working conditions and productivity, within the broader context of the current transformation of academic system in the Czech Republic. The findings showed significant differences between humanities&social sciences and natural sciences in adapting to the current shift of Czech university sector towards more market-oriented governance. Academic departments in natural sciences applied productivity-oriented strategies to a significantly higher extent than departments in H&SS, including strategies such as providing performance feedback and role clarity, putting emhasis on productivity and quality of work. Relatedly, academics in natural sciences reported significantly higher levels of job satisfaction and career prospects than those in H&SS.
