Although theoretical economists express their concerns about the long-run effects of the state-managed banking sector on the efficiency of allocation of capital and the microeconomic efficiency of companies, it seems that other (political and power-related) factors are likely to prevail and that the current system will only see slow change. We can therefore expect that the dominant role of banking and the small role of foreign competition in the financial market of the PRC will be preserved.
