The chapter focuses on basic findings on relationships between depressive symptoms and school achievement and summarizes possibilities and limits of the Children’s Depression Inventory in examination of this issue. A study realized by the Institute of Psychology AS CR in cooperation with the Prague Psychiatric Center indicates that depressive symptoms associate with school achievement already at the age range 911, and thus appropriate attention should be devoted to prevention and intervention in early school years. Next, the study demonstrated that the Children’s Depression Inventory presents a useful instrument for research of the associations between depressive symptoms and school achievement, as well as for early identification of children at risk.
