Účelem konference konané u příležitosti 125. výročí založení ČAVU v Praze bylo shrnout vývoj a význam neuniverzitních institucí spjatých s rozvojem vědy ve střední a jihovýchodní Evropě. Konference, určená historikům, ale i sociologům, ekonomům a manažerům, měla trojí perspektivu z hlediska uchopení svého tématu: historickou, analytickou a programatickou.

The purpose of the conference, organised as a part of the celebrations of the 125th anniversary of founding of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts, was to summarise the development and significance of non-university institutions associated with the advancement of science and humanities in the Central and South Eastern Europe. The conference, which was intended for historians, as well as sociologists, economists, and sciences managers, follows a threefold perspective: historical, analytical and programmatic.
