Successful development, as a relatively new area, is studied from various perspectives: psychological, sociological and medical. There are many theoretical and empirical approaches to successful development, such as life span or life course models. Successful development can also be seen in terms of adapting to the demands of society or in terms of individual growth. Since it is a complex construct, it is usually not sufficient to examine it on the basis of a single criterion. More often, a multi-criteria approach is used, or the focus is on successful development as a lifelong process. Current empirical research usually distinguishes between two aspects or criteria: external and internal. External criteria relate in particular to the process of adjusting to social norms; internal criteria are primarily associated with well-being.
