Paměti Jiřího Havelky, v letech 1938–41 přednosty prezidentské kanceláře a zároveň ministra československé, posléze protektorátní vlády, přinášejí autentické svědectví o konci první Československé republiky a vzniku a fungování Protektorátu Čechy a Morava. Havelka jako ministr dopravy a nejbližší spolupracovník prezidenta Emila Háchy popisuje poměry v prvních letech protektorátu, charakterizuje významné osobnosti té doby a přibližuje nelehké postavení protektorátní reprezentace vůči nacistické okupační moci.

Memoirs of Jiří Havelka – in years 1938–1941 minister of the Czechoslovak and then Protectorate government and simultaneously the Head of the Office of the State President – provides an authentic testimony of the breakup of the first Czechoslovak republic and the beginning of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia. Havelka as a minister of transportation and the closest associate of the State President Emil Hácha describes the early years of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia and depicts in detail the difficult position of the protectorate representation towards the Nazi occupation regime.
