Enrichment of ALP-loaded chitosan hydrogels with PG and GA has no appreciable negative effect on hydrogel gelation kinetics, minneralizability and ability to reduce the colony forming ability of E. coli as well as bacterial growth in liquid medium. Antioxidant activity was quicker and higher in hydrogels containing PG and GA before mineralization. Antioxidant activity of hydrogels containing GA was reduced as a result of mineralization. Addition of GA to hydrogels substantially enhanced the antibacterial activity. PG had no negative effect on MG63 cell adhesion and growth, while GA caused cytotoxicity and diminished cell growth
