The process of storing archival is in some cases accompanied by improper storage. High relative humidity and even the presence of mould in the archive are present. The work should outline options for the protection of lignocellulose materials by the application vapours of essential oils in low concentration to the improper storage environment. The vapours of selected essential oils which have high antibacterial and antifungal effects were tested for the defined types of pulps and wood pulp. Essential oils were subsequently ten times lower concentrations of vapour than the saturated vapours. In the present work are assessed by changes in the mechanical and optical properties of cellulosic materials by the application of oils. From the results it is evident that there is only a minimal decrease in mechanical properties. It fulfilled a prerequisite for further experiments on real samples that were taken out of book collections.
