U příležitosti třiceti let, která letos uplynou od smrti profesora Josefa Charváta, jsou vydány jeho deníkové záznamy z roku 1945. Josef Charvát (6. 8. 1897–31. 1. 1984), zakladatel české endokrinologie, působil od roku 1923 na II. interní klinice, v roce 1945 založil III. interní kliniku 1. Lékařské fakulty Univerzity Karlovy a vedl ji až do roku 1970. Dochované Charvátovy deníky z dramatického roku 1945 jsou jedinečným historickým pramenem. Josef Charvát si v tomto roce vedl pečlivé každodenní záznamy, které zachycují jeho osobní zážitky, ale také reflektují stěžejní dobové dění (v oblasti politiky, vědy, kultury, hospodářství) a poskytují řadu zajímavých údajů o utváření československého zdravotnického systému. Byl očitým svědkem bombardování Prahy na jaře 1945, podílel se na obnově výuky medicíny po znovuotevření českých vysokých škol a na formování našeho poválečného zdravotnictví včetně jeho personálního zajištění.

These diary records from 1945 have been published to mark the thirtieth anniversary this year of the death of Professor Josef Charvát (1897-1984), the father of Czech endocrinology, who worked at the Second Internal Clinic from 1923 and established the Third Internal Clinic in 1945 at the First Medical Faculty in Charles University in Prague, which he ran until 1970. Josef Charvát's surviving diaries from the dramatic year of 1945 are a unique historical resource. During that time he kept careful daily records describing his personal experiences and reflecting the key political, scientific, cultural and economic events of the era, as well as providing numerous interesting facts on the creation of the Czechoslovak healthcare system. He was an eye-witness of the bombing of Prague in spring 1945 and took part in the restoration of medical tuition after the reopening of the Czech higher education institutes, as well as in the creation of Czech postwar medical and personal insurance.
