The work deals with new applications and experiments performed with the Liulin semiconductor detector. Experiments described in this work are focused on cosmic rays detection and radiation protection from cosmic rays and their secondary particles. Introduction of the work comprises from sections which briefly describe cosmic rays and their interactions with the Earth. The introduction is followed by description of the experimental facilities, detectors and methodologies used in this work. The experiments described in this thesis were performed at three altitude levels, namely at a) Lomnický štít and Jungfraujoch high-mountain observatories; b) on-board the Czech Airlines aircraft and c) on-board the International Space Station. Results of the experiments performed at the Jungfraujoch and the Lomnický štít observatories show that the monitoring of the space weather with the Liulin detector is possible but it has some limitations. Measurements of the distribution of the radiation fields were performed on-board the Czech Airlines aircraft as a unique set of measurements with the detectors placed along the plane cabin. Finally, considering the results, the advantages and disadvantages of the Liulin type detectors are discussed.
