Studie se zaměřuje koncepty subverze, disidence a cenzury v rámci jednoho z proudů britského literárněvědného myšlení, tzv. kulturního materialismu (Raymond Williams), a pojetí literatury a umění jako specifických sociálních praxí. Na románu Mirákl Josefa Škvoreckého článek ukazuje, že jeho „subverzivní“ nebo „disidentský“ potenciál nepramení z kritiky cenzury a ideologie, ale z „prchavých identifikací“, ošidného zrcadlení ideologických a estetických opozit (liberálně-humanistické a materialistické koncepce umění, komunistické ideologie a katolické víry, nového románu a socrealismu atd.). Podrobněji a kriticky se studie věnuje pojetí „cenzury pomocí interpretace“ a „démonické touhy“ britského kulturního materialisty Jonathana Dollimora.

This article focuses on the concepts of subversion, dissidence and censorship as developed within one strand of British literary criticism, the so-called cultural materialism (Raymond Williams) and its conception of literature and arts as specific social practices. Using Josef Škvorecký’s The Miracle Game, the study shows that the subversive or “dissident” potential of the novel is not grounded in its implicit critique of censorship and ideology, but rather in what is called here “volatile identifications”, dangerous mirrorings of ideological and aesthetic opposites (liberal-humanistic and materialistic conception of art, nouveau roman and socialist realism, Communist ideology and Catholic faith etc.). Critically and more in detail, the article considers the notions of “censorship-by-intepreretation” and “demonic desire”, as explored by the British cultural materialist Jonathan Dollimore.
