Suspension plasma spraying introduces liquid feedstock to thermal spray techniques where employing of powders mostly takes place. Use of liquid precursor for plasma spraying allows using significantly smaller particles for the deposition process. That is way how to reach a finer microstructure of the coating with an interesting materials properties. Employing of suspension feedstock demands a source of heat energy with a high enthalpy in order to provide an appropriate thermal treatment of the liquid feedstock during the plasma spray process. Water stabilized plasma torch (WSP 500, IPP AS CR, Prague, Czech Republic), which operates with power of 160 kW, provides such a heat source with high enthalpy and high velocity of the plasma.
