This contribution emphasizes on the computer simulations of the granular materials via Discrete Element Method (DEM) by using open-source software LIGGGHTS. The examined process was mixing of approximately 42 thousands spherical particles with 2 mm diameter in a vertical cylindrical mixer with two opposed flat blades of 45° rake angle. Unlike the continuous simulations this method neglect the interstitial fluid and simulate motion of each particle by the second Newton law, where a sum of all forces affecting the particle consists of the pairwise contact force and the external forces. In this case only the gravitation is assumed as an external force.
