Zájem o islám narůstá. Řada kontroverzních jevů, jež léta plní zpravodajské rubriky, se ale v příručkách o islámu nevyskytuje. Nezasvěcený pozorovatel tak může nabýt dojmu, jako by existovaly dva islámy, mediální a ten z knihoven či univerzit, jejichž průnik se zdá být minimální. A právě tuto mezeru by měl zaplnit Atlas muslimských strašáků, jenž se soustředí na ta islámská či muslimská témata, která bývají tolik medializována – a mezi nemuslimy často přijímána s nepochopením či obavami.

Interest in Islam is on the rise. However, numerous controversial phenomena, which for years have grabbed the headlines, are not to be found in guides to Islam. An unenlightened observer might have the impression that there are two Islams, the media one and the one found in libraries and universities – with very little overlap between them. It is this gap that the book Atlas muslimských strašáků (Atlas of Muslim Bogeymen) aims to fill. It focuses on Islamic or Muslim subjects that are particularly covered in the media – and frequently lead to misunderstanding or fear on the part of non-Muslims.
