Karel Engliš was recognized during the first half of 20th Century as creative economist and philosopher on the one hand, and of the other as a leading representative of monetary and financial development in the former Czechoslovak Republic. This article deals with English´ contribution to social policy. Apart from definition of social policy, Engliš considers various phenomena, such as unemployment, collective bargaining, minimum wage, limitation of working time and social insurance. It is our aim to show how inspiring and topical his ideas may be for social theory.
