The paper is aimed at the small town sector analysis in conditions of Jihomoravský NUTS 3 region Czechia. There are 22 towns with 4,000- 12,000 inhabitants in the region. Statistically, the sector is characterised by a slow population increase and unfavourable educational structure – resulting in the higher sensibility to the fluctuation on the labour market. Of course, the suburbanised small towns have better values of population development and unemployment. The qualitative analysis detected better relation to the nature, higher level of persona security but lower level of social infrastructure and cultural life. South-Moravian small towns are differentiated by their size and Geographical position. The peripheral small towns are the most important because they ensure jobs, services and social contacts for the countryside. In any case, small towns offer an alternative style of living.
