Sociologie a sociologická teorie dobře analyzuje sociální a institucionální konflikt a násilí, ale už méně dobře specifika interpersonálního násilí. Článek zkoumá sociologickou důležitost domácího násilí a zaměřuje se na možný paradox násilí a intimity ve fenoménu domácího násilí, důležitost pojmenování, vysvětlení, odpovědnost a aktérství, a gender, hegemonii a diskurz v domácím násilí, které muži páchají na jim známým ženám.

Sociology and sociological theory have been effective in analyzing societal and institutional conflict and violence, but less so in analyzing the specifics of interpersonal violence. This article examines the sociological significance of domestic violence, and focuses on the possible paradox of violence and intimacy in the phenomenon of domestic violence; the importance of the naming; explanation, responsibility and agency; and gender, hegemony and discourse in men’s violence to known women.
