Accurate knowledge of the stress-strain state in the rock mass is the determinative factor for proper planning of roadway supports and for correct design of underground mining. That is why stress monitoring, primarily changes induced by longwall mining or destress blasting, was the focus of this research project. The roadways are loaded, for example, by the pressure ahead of advanced longwall or by the stresses induced by destress blasting in overlying rock. Besides, mining is influenced by stress induced by previous excavation: the mining edges or pillars in overburden or abandoned working in the same seam. The verification of the stress field response to stresses induced by different geological or mining factors was the main aim of this research project.
