Ventilation in an idealised urban area with a complex geometry was investigated by a large eddy simulation LES and a wind tunnel experiment. In the wind tunnel, we assembled an experimental set-up for simultaneous measurement of velocity and concentration. The Charles University Large eddy Microscale Model (CLMM) solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations was used for numerical computing of the problem. We focused on the street canyon situated perpendicular to the approach flow and equipped by a line source of tracer gas. Vertical advective and turbulent pollution fluxes were computed as ventilation characteristics in three horizontal grids in different heights within the street canyon. A validation of LES numerical model was evaluated using the Hit Rate and the Factor of two observations FAC2 metrics. The model was successfully validated only for concentration and for a part of longitudinal velocity data. The possible problems in LES modelling are discussed.
