Polyaniline–silver composites with variable content of silver (up to 30 vol.%) were produced by the oxidation of aniline with a mixture of two oxidants, silver nitrate and ammonium peroxydisulfate, in 1 M aqueous solution of methanesulfonic or acetic acid. The dependence of electrical conductivity on silver content is discussed in a framework of the percolation phenomenon with threshold between 21–24 vol.% for polyaniline salts and 25–27 vol.% for corresponding bases. Two different regions were found, semiconducting/insulating one for lower contents of silver, and metallic one, typical for silver-rich systems. Several transport mechanisms, such as the variable-range hopping, the charging-energy-limited tunnelling, the fluctuation-induced tunnelling, and Arrhenius activated transport were considered. The influence of doping acid, dynamic vacuum, and ageing on the electrical properties of composites was studied as well.
