The autor argues that the medieval tradition of Welegrad as the seat of the Great Moravian archbishop Methodius may have a historical background and provides pieces of historical, archeological as well as philological evidence justifying the hypothesis that the origin of the place name Veligrad dates back as early as the 9th century and that this traditional locality may be connected with the Great Moravian fortified settlement at the present-day Staré Město-Uherské Hradiště.
