Carbon can appear in several allotrope forms because of its diversity in chemical bonds. The broad variety of intrinsic properties among carbon allotrope forms evocates the idea to combine them in a novel nanocomposite exploiting extraordinary qualities of each individual form. Usually such nanocomposites are fabricated from CNTs, diamond and carbon fibers. Here, they are primarily used as fillers in polymer or non-carbon matrices. Some reports have focused on the combination of sp2-sp3 hybridized carbon, especially CNTs and nanodiamond powders. However, there are only limited works on composites as CNTs and nanocrystalline diamond (NCD). In such case, the composite material has been produced either by transformation of multi-walled CNTs to diamond/amorphous carbon or by preparation of composite structures on carrier substrate as silicon. In this contribution, we present a comprehensive experimental study on the fabrication of hybrid sp2-sp3 carbon composites.
