Diamond-based sensors are promising devices for bioelectrical applications due to biocompatibility, transparency, surface functionalization of diamond films, which allow real time electrical and optical monitoring of cell cultivation and/or cell functions. Some challenges and perspectives for next generation of biosensors are reviewed in this contribution. We also discuss about an optically transparent intrinsic diamond film as a functional material suitable for fabrication of impedance sensors and solution-gated field effect transistors (SGFETs). The diamond-based sensors use p-type surface conductivity induced by hydrogen terminated diamond surface. The possibility of in -vivo monitoring of cell growth, electrical stimulation or delamination of cells is pointed out too.
