The aim of the project is to estimate density and distribution of large carnivores - European lynx, brown bear and wolf - in SCI Beskydy. We use several independent methods of monitoring of large carnivores to fulfil this aim: GPS telemetry, camera-trapping (30 camera traps/month), hair trapping (100 hair traps/per month) and consequent non-invasive DNA analyses (up to date 384 samples were analysed), faecal dietary analyses (up to date 160 faeces) and monitoring of signs (up to date more than 5000 hours of monitoring). Preliminary results indicate that the density of all three studied species is significantly lower than densities estimated using monitoring of signs conducted in previous years by the Administration of Protected Landscape area Beskydy.
