Micro-radiography is an imaging technique that usesX-rays to study the internal structures of objects. This fast and easy imaging tool is based on differential X-ray attenuation by variol tissues and structures within biological samples. The experimental setup described is based on the semiconductor pixel X-ray detektor Medipix 2 and X-ray micro-focus tube. Our micro-radiographic systém has been recently used not only for the examination of internal structures of variol arthropods and other biological objels but also for tracing some processes in selected model species (we used living larvae of mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus). Low concentrations of iodine, lanthanum or gold particles were used as a tracer (contrast agent). Such kontrast agents increase the absorption of X-rays and allow a better visibility of internal structures of model organisms (especially the variol cavities, pores, etc.). In addition, the movement of tracers in selected timing experiments demonstrates some physiological functions of digestive and excretory system.
