The trend of increasing caesarean sections was evaluated at a large obstetric hospital in the Czech Republic in 1955-1999. During the past 40 years, the number of caesarean sections has increased significantly. Due to the IFV program, there has also been an increase in caesarean sections indicated for multiple pregnancy. The average maternal age at time of operation has increased with a statistical significance in contrast to 40 years ago, by 4-5 years.
