In the present paper both the explicit and implicit neural approaches to representing the knowledge base are compared from various points of view. Then several integration strategies to eliminate the drawbacks of both technologies that have been identified among the existing prototypical neural hybrid systems are reviewed. Thus a basic taxonomy of neural hybrid systems is proposed.
