Twinning/detwinning processes were followed on non-modulated (NM) Ni-Mn-Ga martensite by in-situ TEM straining experiments. The processes were detected on the two levels of hierarchically twinned structure. First, one of paired internal twins vanish, and then new twins form in the detwinned areas. Both stages involve movement of twinning dislocations. Boundaries between internally twinned domains are incoherent and immobile. lnterfaces between the internal twins are coherent and their gradual forward movement under stress is caused by the twinning dislocations.
