Kniha se zabývá dějinami jednoho z nejvýznamnějších ústavů AV ČR, Ústavu organické chemie a biochemie AV ČR od jeho počátků ještě před vznikem ČSAV až do současnosti. První část tvoří dějiny samotného ústavu, druhá pak obsahuje životopisné medailónky významných představitelů nejstarší generace vědeckých pracovníků ústavu a všech ředitelů pracoviště od počátku do současnosti. Zároveň je zde načrtnut kolektivní portrét zakladatelské generace ústavu.

The book deals with the history of one of the most important institutes of the Academy of Sciences of Czech Republic - Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry AS CR since its beginnings prior to the creation of the CSAS until now. The first part is the history of the institution itself, the second contains biographical medallions prominent representatives of the oldest generation of scientists of the Institute and Directors from the beginning to the present. At the same time there is sketched a collective portrait the founding generation of the institute.
