Operation parameters of originally designed Centrifugal Spray Singlet Oxygen Generator (CSSOG) for pumping a Chemical Oxygen-Iodine Laser (COIL) were studied using nitrogen as a buffer gas instead of helium used previously. In CSSOG, singlet oxygen is generated by the reaction between gaseous chlorine and basic hydrogen peroxide (BHP) in a form of a very fine spray. This system with a high interfacial surface area enables a very high reaction rate. A depleted BHP liquid in the reaction with chlorine is fast separated from gas containing singlet oxygen by means of a specially designed centrifugal gas-liquid separator. The experiments with the modified CSSOG for operation with much cheaper nitrogen instead of helium proved the effective production of singlet oxygen with a yield of 0.4 - 0.8 at even very high generator pressures (260 - 450 Torr).
