Filtration properties of electrospun polyurethane nanofibrous materials were investigated. Filtration efficiencies were relatively low, when we used filtration materials having low area weights(0.3 to 1.9 g per m2), but they increased significantly with increasing area weight. Using filters with the area weight of 3.8 g per m2, we achieved considerably higher pathogen removal efficiency reaching up to 4.86 logs. Such efficiency is fully comparable with commercially available microfiltration membranes.
