Rozhovor s Evženem Neustupným otevírá řadu zajímavých otázek z teorie a dějin archeologie. Jeho celoživotní výzkumné aktivity, včetně např. formulace "artefaktové archeologie" - uceleného systému archeologické teorie a metody, nepřehlédnutelným způsobem obohatily vývoj oboru na světové úrovni. Rozhovor dokládá, že i na východní straně železné opony sledoval v poválečném období vývoj archeologie trajektorii od kulturně historického paradigmatu k procesualismu a dále. Vypovídá o možnostech společenských věd v prostředí komunistického režimu a rozporuplné roli marxistického učení. Podává také svědectví o odborném vývoji člověka, který formuloval nové koncepce navzdory politické a odborné izolaci, zakládal nové instituce a v posledních deseti letech stačil vychovat část mladé generace českých archeologů.

An interview with Evžen Neustupný opens up a range of interesting questions regarding the theory and history of archaeology. His view of the discipline differs in many ways to that of current global trends, and in this way he potentially enriches the field. His "artefact archaeology" gives a new meaning to the concept of adaptation and highlights the role of artefacts in the creation of the human world. The interview also shows that post-war archaeology even to the east of the Iron Curtain followed the trajectory from the culture history paradigm to processualism and onwards. It also testifies to situation in the social sciences under Communism and the contradictory role of Marxist philosophy. It likewise provides testimony to the professional development of a scientist who formulated new concepts despite political and professional isolation, who founded new institutions and managed to educate part of the younger generation of Czech archaeologists in the past decade.
