Populární kultura bývá často interpretována jako univerzalistická, globální kultura bez paměti. Studie s touto interpretací polemizuje a snaží se ukázat vztah současné české identity a paměti v současné populární kultuře. Na dvou typech televizních programů se snaží ukázat, že současná populární kultura má výrazné kulturně mnemonické aspekty a pracuje s různými typy paměťových odkazů, jejichž prostřednictvím performuje též současnou „českou“ identitu.

The popular culture used to be interpreted as a universalist, global, memory-missing culture without any sense for historical thinking. This article argues against this interpretation. It tries to show the relationship between the local (Czech) identity and the local (Czech) memory within the contemporary commercialized leisure. Using two types of TV programs, the paper analyzes two types of the mnemonic issues the popular culture works with, and illustrates how the contemporary popular culture uses these issues to perform what can be called “Czech” identity.
