We tested palatability (and thus efficiency of aposematism) of five checkerspot butterfly species (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae). The tested birds showed equally high attack rates with regard to control group and tested butterflies. This was surprising, especially in case of chemically protected species (M. didyma and M. aurelia).
