Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are often used as precursors of mixed oxide catalysts. In the catalysts prepared by heating of powdered LDH precursors formed into pellets, considerable part of the catalyst grain volume is not fully utilized because of slow internal diffusion. When the precursors are deposited in a thin layer on an inert supporting material, the effect of reactants diffusion in the fast reaction can be minimized. We have found the Co-Mn-Al LDH-related mixed oxides with Co:Mn:Al molar ratio of 4:1:1 as promising catalysts for total oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and N2O decomposition [1-3]. In this work the Co-Mn-Al LDH precursor was prepared on the surface of stainless steel sieve. The electrochemical synthesis, consisting in cathodic reduction of Co, Mn and Al nitrates in aqueous solutions, was used. The supported mixed oxides formed after pre-cursor heating were tested in the total oxidation of ethanol and N2O decomposition.
