Tématem konference byla krize parlamentní demokracie a její zánik ve velké části středoevropského regionu v 30. letech, tj. otázky, které v sobě obsahují i stále aktuální dimenzi, jež se týká především analýzy rizik pro demokracii v podobě tehdejšího růstu radikálních nálad a sociálních tenzí. Rozdílné cesty obou zemí charakterizují také válečnou a poválečnou etapu historického vývoje, stále diskutovanou otázkou je bezpochyby odsun německého obyvatelstva a otázka kompenzace válečných obětí. Pozornost vzbuzovaly i problémy spojené s počátky odlišného politického a hospodářského vývoje obou států v postupně se rozdělující Evropě.

The theme of the conference was the crisis of parliamentary democracy and its extinction in large parts of Central Europe in the 1930s, ie questions which contain in themselves also still topical dimension, which mainly refers to the risk analysis for democracy in the form of the increase of social tensions and radical moods. Different paths of the two countries also characterized the war and post-war phase of historical development, an ongoing issue is undoubtedly the German population displacement and the question of compensation for war victims. Great attention was paid to problems associated with the beginnings of different political and economic developments in both countries in the gradually dividing Europe.
