Effect of hold times on low cycle fatigue of cast Inconel 792-5A is studied in symmetrical cyclic straining at 800°C. Cyclic hardening/softening curves, development of mean stress, cyclic stress-strain curves (CSSC) and fatigue life curves were obtained in continuous cycling and in cycling with tensile and compressive hold times. Hold times have slight effect on hardening/softening curves at high strain amplitudes. CSSC in cycling with hold times is shifted to lower stress amplitudes. Significant reduction of fatigue life was observed on Basquin curves in case of cycling with compressive hold times. Density of slip markings in continuous cycling is significantly higher in comparison with cyclic straining with hold times. High density of secondary cracks is typical for specimen surface cycled with tensile hold times, although sporadic slip markings were also found.
