S nárůstem spalované biomasy v České republice je nezbytné nalézt vhodné využití pro stále se zvyšující množství vedlejších produktů – popelů. Popel ze spalování biomasy zůstává nyní v České republice převážně nevyužit, ačkoliv obsahuje významná množství cenných živin. V případě navrácení těchto živin do půdy by se uzavřel koloběh živin, omezilo by se skládkování i náklady na minerální hnojiva Naše analýzy více než 50 popelů ze spalování biomasy potvrdily významný obsah makroživin v těchto materiálech a jejich současné skládkování je tudíž neekonomické a v rozporu s myšlenkou trvale udržitelného rozvoje.

The increase of biomass combustion in the Czech Republic causes necessity to find a suitable way for recycling of the increasing amount of by-products – ash. Nowadays, ash from the combustion of biomass remains largely unused in the Czech Republic, although it contains significant amount of valuable nutrients. In case of the return of ash to the soil it would be closed nutrient cycle, reduced landfilling and saved fertilizers expenditures. Our analysis of more than 50 ash from the biomass combustion confirmed the important content of macronutrients in these materials and therefore the current landfilling is uneconomical and contrary to the idea of sustainable development.
