Měšťané ve středověkém českém státě konali řadu zbožných skutků. Dokladů o vnitřním prožitku jejich víry je mnohem méně. Forma zbožnosti je však neoddělitelná od vnitřního přesvědčení, a proto je nutné na obojí nahlížet jako na dvě strany jedné mince.

Burghers in the medieval Bohemian state made many pious deeds, while there is much less evidence of their internal experience of faith. The form of the piety is, however, inseparable from the inner belief. It is therefore necessary to perceive the two things as two sides of the same coin.
