We present a generalization to an arbitrary number of subspaces of the cosine of the Friedrichs angle between two subspaces of a Hilbert space. This parameter is used to analyze the rate of convergence in the von Neumann-Halperin method of alternating projections. (C) 2009 Academie des sciences.
