The paper deals with bottle optical microresonators prepared in optical fibers with a circular and hexagonal cross-sections. A simple 2-D numerical modeling has been used to investigate basic spectral characteristics of microresonators with hexagonal cross-sections. Methods used for the preparation of the microresonators with the use of a CO2 laser and a glass processing unit are presented. The resonant properties of microresonators excited with a fiber taper are experimentally obtained.
