We examine the population of white dwarfs in post-common envelope binaries with a particular emphasis on the youngest objects and their ultraviolet properties. We present some results of our analysis of far ultraviolet spectroscopy of hot white dwarfs and the techniques employed to constrain their temperature, surface gravity and chemical composition. The results will be employed to improve distance estimates toward these objects and to calculate their space density. The measured abundance patterns also show the effect of accretion of mass loss material from the secondary onto the white dwarf atmosphere.
