From the point of view of vegetation history on a European scale, the Czech Republic is of major interest because it is situated on the migration route of several taxa. Past vegetation dynamics are complex due to highly varied orographic, geological and climatic conditions and to the equally varied and long history of human occupation. Unfortunately, our knowledge of the Holocene vegetation history of this country is still incomplete, especially in the central Bohemian lowland, where suitable sites are scarce due to generally dry conditions and high human pressure. This study on the Brve site is a contribution to fill this gap in the network of Czech pollen sites.
