Magnetic nanoparticles of zinc-substituted cobalt ferrite were originally suggested as a material for self-controlled magnetically induced hyperthermia since their Curie temperature(Tc) can be suitably adjusted. With respect to the influence of particle size on Tc, synthesis of nanoparticles with well-controlled, narrow size distribution is desirable. For application studies, the ferrite nanoparticles have to be coated by an appropriate shell, both providing colloidal stability and isolating the core by a durable and non-toxic barrier.
