Crosslinked macroporous copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate [poly(GMA-co-EGDMA)] can be applied in various fields. Syntheses and copolymer characterisation were thoroughly described earlier in literature. The porosity parameters obtained from experiments in addition to the calculated specific pore volume are summarized in Table. Calculation of the specific pore volumes based on van der Waals volumes by Bondi confirmed that Bondi’s parameters can be considered as the best characteristics for different chemical group occupancy. It is evident that with application of the method described, the specific pore volume of poly(GMA-co-EGDMA) copolymers can be estimated within experimental errors, i. e. with an average relative deviation of 8.2 % only.
