A gaseous laser was used to pump an OPCPA system for the first time. A single-shot ultra-narrow-band iodine photodissociation laser pumped two broadband optical parametric amplifiers. Seed pulses from a Ti:sapphire laser were stretched from 12.5 fs to 250 ps, amplified by eight orders, and compressed to 27 fs at an output power of 0.5 TW. Broadband amplification in KDP was achieved at the central wavelength of 800 nm for the first time. The results turn out that a kilojoule iodine laser is suitable for generating PW laser pulses in a large aperture OPCPA system
